INDUSTRIAL SECTOR
Dalby
is well established as an industrial centre for agricultural,
commercial, and industrial activity. The business community
is widely regarded as a leader in the design, manufacture
and marketing of agricultural equipment with many manufacturers
established in Dalby producing heavy-duty products.
Its close proximity to the densely populated
south-east corner of the state also ensures that Dalby keeps
abreast of the advances in communication and technology, whilst
taking advantage of lower costs than the larger cities with
low cost industrial land available.
Fully serviced industrial land, controlled
by the Department of Business, Industry and Regional Development,
is available only two kilometres from the Post Office, and
is available for lease at attractive rates.
The town is well serviced with water, sewerage,
and natural gas.
Dalby's infrastructure and stable, educated
workforce make business establishment or relocation a realistic
possibility. In fact, there is a promising future for investors
in the district. Many opportunities are closely linked with
the agricultural pursuits of the surrounding rural area. However,
as a prosperous and progressive provincial centre Dalby holds
opportunities for many new and diversified business pursuits.
In an ever changing, ever developing business
world, the Town of Dalby is ideally situated to take advantage
of the unprecedented growth that will occur in this region
during the next five years.
The Council welcomes the opportunity to discuss
business opportunities and have prepared a Prospectus
for Industry and Business Development (PDF) for your information.
The Dalby
Bio-Refinery is planning the construction of a $AUD 75
million ethanol production facility on the outskirts of Dalby.
The refinery will be the first in Australia to use sorghum
as the production feedstock.
When full operational capacity is reached
in 2005, the plant will produce 82 million litres per annum
of ethanol. Another valuable co-product of the plant is distiller’s
grain with an estimated 72 thousand tonnes being produced
each year and sold as animal feedstock.
The refinery will be strategically located
with access to surrounding sorghum crops in the region, ready
fuel markets for ethanol in the population centres of south-east
Queensland and a demand for feedstock for dairy and beef feedlots
and piggeries in the Darling Downs region.
