SEWERAGE

Dalby's sewage is treated by a state of the art biological nutrient removal process which is capable of removing nitrogen and phosphorus down to quite low levels and treats approximately three million litres per day. The Plant significantly reduces the Town's impact on the environment and is Dalby's part in reducing toxic algal blooms in the Murray-Darling basin.

Recycled Water
Currently 30% of the water from our wastewater treatment plant is recycled by providing water to the Dalby Golf Course, the Dalby South School and the turf club. Water is treated to a high standard by our biological nutrient removal plant and is supplied to those customers under supply contracts. Council imposes conditions on the users to ensure that the water is used safely.

In the long term Council is committed to 100% recycling of its wastewater, to industrial customers, for parks and gardens and ultimately some domestic customers. This will reduce the demand on the potable supplies, which are a limited resource.

Town Sewerage System
Council is responsible for the maintenance of manholes and sewer mains that pass through properties. Council will occasionally require access into properties to perform maintenance and repair work. After such works, Council attempts to reinstate the property to its original condition.

The owner/occupier of the property is responsible for the maintenance of the house drain in a satisfactory condition. Blockages in the sewer jump-up will be cleared by Council at no charge. When a blockage occurs in the owner/occupier's line a private plumber may be used. Council also offers a drain clearing service with a flat rate fee structure dependent on work being performed during normal working hours or after hours.

The discharge of petrol, oil, paint etc., into sewers is prohibited as this can cause severe environmental damage. The discharge of stormwater from roofs into the sewer is also prohibited. Sewer manholes should never be built over or covered by gardens, sheds or other objects.

Residents can assist Council in the maintenance of an efficient sewerage system by swiftly reporting any actual or possible sewerage problems.
