The topography of the Town of Dalby presents many difficulties in the draining of storm and rain water because there is little gradient to provide fall to collection points. The main systems used for storm and rain water drainage are water tables in front of residences, kerb and channelling, open earth drainage and underground stormwater drainage.
Over a period of years, Council has embarked on a programme to install underground stormwater drainage. This programme is continuing.
Where no kerb and channelling has been constructed, water tables are most important. Any obstruction such as built up driveways or ruts from parking vehicles in the drains after rain can cause water to dam with resultant problems.
Council has a programme for water-table maintenance where areas requiring work have been identified and priorities attended to.
Approval must be obtained from Council before stormwater is discharged into a Council stormwater drainage system. The discharge of petrol, oil, chemicals, pesticides etc., into a stormwater system is strictly prohibited as these discharges can damage waterways and the environment. The discharge of stormwater into the Council sewerage system is strictly prohibited.
